Make it a summer of great cinema with films for all the family

Worried about how to keep the kids entertained over the summer holidays? Don’t worry Film3Sixty is here to help.

Shortly, the summer holidays will be upon us, and whilst it is a great time to rollout the barbecue, and soak up some sun, it is also a time when the kids have a very long time off school.  Whilst there is a plenty to do outdoors, there’ll inevitably be many rainy days (after all, we live in Britain).  Don’t worry though, Film3Sixty is here to help, so, we have wracked our brains and provided you with a summary of fantastic films still to be released in cinemas (below). As well as this, we have come up with an exhaustive list films, divided across 3 age-ranges, that you can either buy on DVD, or watch on VOD, to help keep your lil’uns entertained.

At Cinemas

How To Train Your Dragon 2 (PG)

Director: Dean DeBlois

Cast: Jay Baruchel, Cate Blanchett, and Gerard Butler

Following on from the huge success of the original film in 2010, How To Train Your Dragon 2 sees Hiccup reunited with his fire-breathing friend Toothless. This new adventure sees the courageous duo discover an ice cave that is home to hundreds of new dragons and the mysterious Dragon Rider, which could unsettle the peace between dragons and Vikings. Already receiving rave reviews from America, this sequel is set to be a sure-fire hit this summer.

Release date: 10th July

 

Earth to Echo (PG)

Director: Dave Green

Cast: Teo Halm, Astro, Reese Hartwig

Much in the vein of the classic 80s film Flight of the Navigator (1986), Earth to Echo sees a group of kids go on a fantastic adventure with an alien who has crash-landed near their homes and needs help. Utilising hand-held camera footage, Earth To Echo looks likely to be an uplifting film that will appeal to kids with their heads in the stars and adults who long for a bit of nostalgia.

Release date: 25th July

 

The House of Magic (U)

Director: Jeremy Degruson, Ben Stassen

Thunder is a young cat that is accidentally abandoned by his owners whilst they are moving house. Seeking refuge from a storm, Thunder stumbles across the fantastical home of an elderly magician who lives with his amazing array of pets and creations. House of Magic is a dazzling 3D adventure that will make you believe in magic all over again.

Release date: 25th July

 

The Nut Job (U)

Director: Peter Lepeniotis

Cast: Will Arnett, Brendan Fraser, and Liam Neeson

When an ambitious, but careless, squirrel destroys his and his fellow park dwelling friends only source of food, he hatches a plan to break into a new Nut Shop, which will feed his hungry brethren. If your kids are fans of furry critters then they are sure to love this, plus it features the comedic voice talents of Will Arnett, Brendan Fraser and Liam Neeson, which will keep the parents, entertained.

Release date: 1st August

 

Planes: Fire and Rescue (U)

Director: Roberts Gannaway

Cast: Dane Cook, Julie Bowen, and Patrick Warburton

Last year Planes was an unexpected hit for Disney, now the colourful aeronautical characters return this summer with Planes: Fire and Rescue where our hero Dusty Crophopper learns that his engine has been damaged preventing him from ever racing again. With his dreams snatched away from Dusty turns to the world of aerial fire fighting and joins a taskforce of brave and daring vehicles, who tackle blazes. Thrilling and vibrant, the Planes characters are guaranteed to have youngsters reaching for the sky once again.

Release date: 8th August

 

The Boxtrolls (U)

Director: Graham Annable, Anthony Stacchi

Cast: Elle Fanning, Simon Pegg, Toni Collette

Perhaps one of the most unique and creative films that kids will enjoy in the coming months is The Boxtrolls. The film follows a young orphan, named Eggs, who has been raised by trolls who live underneath a town and collect the inhabitant’s trash at night. However, when the town employs an evil exterminator to eradicate they presence, Eggs must do everything in his power to protect them. From the minds that brought you Coraline (2009) and Paranoman (2012), this 3D stop-motion adventure has potential to be one of the most charming films of the year.

Release date: 12th September
